Volume 1 Number 2
Week in, Week out
A Pre/Primary School publication

Welcome to our second edition of the Pre/Primary weekly Newsletter, and for those who are reading for the first time, our newly formatted Newsletter which we will be sharing with you every week instead of every month.

Our 'Week in' will feature activities going on in the school the same week we publish and 'Week out' will give you a sneak preview as to what will be happening the following week. The Newsletters will hopefully provide you wilth a real variety of things going on both inside and out of the classroom.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to read our first Newsletter and to all of our colleagues who shared pictures and articles for us to include. We've had a busy week at both City & Zek campus this week in celebration of Maths (Week in Secondary) and Maths Day for City, Zek & National schools on Thursday & Friday last week. Lots of work has been going on behind the scenes in preparation for the big day and students made lots of effort with their costumes in celebration of it. And as always, the Istanbul weather has been testing us this week, with beautiful bright sunshine at the start of the week and blustery wind and rain by Tuesday! Still, it didn't dampen the spirit in school and the atmosphere was fun and lively during the many activities created for our students to enjoy in celebration of the day.

Please do feel free to leave us some feedback or suggestions for future editions. You can email us at: richardianson@bis.k12.tr or communicaitons@bis.k12.tr

We'd love to hear from you with your thoughts and ideas.

We hope you enjoy this week's read!
WEEK IN
Maths Day

Ms Cosnett: Head of Mathematics

Disaster struck BISI this week when a villainous dragon ran amuck in the school. Poor Mr Richard came off worst in the attack
as his precious teddy bear was callously stolen. The dragon held the hapless bear hostage, taunting Mr Richard all the while.

Fortunately, there was a hoard of courageous  heroes ready to lend a hand. Fearless princesses, mischievous goblins, gallant knights, magical unicorns and powerful wizards were amongst those who stepped forward to save the day. Their task, however, was not to be an easy one for the dragon set them a series of mathematical challenges to overcome.

Our heroes soon set to work weighing gold, designing mazes, solving riddles and training to navigate the dark tunnels of a dragon's lair. As an insurance plan, they carefully measured out ingredients for a batch of magic potions in case they needed to subdue the beast.

They say that fortune favours the brave; well it certainly favoured our brave heroes. After a gruelling day, they emerged victorious and returned the bear to a very relieved Mr Richard.

Our students took part in a whole range of activities during the day, as the school classrooms and gyms were transformed in to activity areas for all of our students.
There was lots of excellent team work going on around our Pre/Primary students on Friday, as they completed many Mathematical games and challenges.

And special thanks goes to Ms Cosnestt (pictured above) for organising the Maths Day activities across both City & Zek campus. And to all of our EYFS & Primary staff & Secondary students who volunteered their time to help with the City & Zek activities. Thank you all for your hard work and involvement in making the days such a success.

Our students had a great time, as you can see from our picture gallery.

On Thursday our City campus started the Maths Day celebrations at Etiler with a whole range of activities and challenges. Our Secondary students from Zek campus volunteered for the day to help our younger students complete all their tasks. Below you can view our picture gallery of all the fun from the day.

Our students were tasked with navigating their fellow classmates through mazes, whilst blindfolded, with a set of directions and right-angled turns.
