Week in, Week out
A Secondary School publication

Welcome to our ninth edition of the weekly newsletter. A week of celebrations and achievements and a little bit of tree planting. Just a regular week at BISI, really.

Dr Çeltik has shared some updates from our Year 13 Higher Level Maths students, who are working incredibly hard in the run-up to the final stretch of their IB journey.

The Student Council have been busy with #teamtrees. On Friday they held a mufti, a bake sale and did a spot of tree planting, raising funds for this brilliant cause, but not before we celebrated our much loved teachers for the early Teachers' Day celebrations in our school canteen.

And finally, the biggest event in the term one calendar: the school production of 'War of the Worlds'. Don't forget to get your tickets before they sell-out. This year promises to be a spectacular show! Check all the details from Mr Cosnett in our 'Week out' section.

Happy reading!
Year 13 Mathematics

Dr Çeltık - Head of Mathematics

Year 13 HL students actually reached the peak of mathematics by working on their optional topic for their IB course. The name of the course is Sets, Relation and Group, but the mathematical area is Abstract Algebra. This is the course or a branch of mathematics in which algebraic concepts are generalized by using symbols to represent basic arithmetical operations.

After so many tears of mathematical study they learned:

2+3 = 1 or

They are now  learning how to think deeply in an imaginary world and how things can easily change. This lesson was the lesson where we all needed some fresh air to think about Bill Shillito's youtube video on the group theory (see below).

Teachers' Day

During Friday morning break time, our teachers assembled in the school canteen to enjoy a celebration in advance of the official Teachers' Day on Sunday 24 November.

To show our beloved staff how much we appreciate all they do for our students and our school, we held a small celebration with a delicious cake, snacks and refreshments. In addition, there was a small gift of a BISI flask to keep their morning coffee warm.

From everyone here at BISI, thank you for your continual hard work and dedication to the school and students. They may not say it often, but our students really do appreciate you all.

The Student Council, represented by different KS groups, held a mufti day on Friday in aid of #teamtrees.

On Friday afternoon students headed to our Botanical Garden where they planted three trees. With a bit of team work and some serious digging, the students managed to break the soil to make these lovely additions to the garden for all to enjoy.

Thank you to everyone who donated baked items for the sale and to all of our students who took part and made donations for the mufti.

Great efforts all around!!!
