Dear readers,

With the closure of EYFS this week, we are all officially online full time! This hasn't effected BISI's events calendar as they are all virtual this year. Our Primary Students got to enjoy a day of 'Wellness' last Friday, with a day full of wonderful events.

This week began with our Virtual Winter Bazaar going live for all your festive shopping needs and entries are now open for our Zek Winter Showcase, coming up at the end of the term.

To keep informed about the rules and regulations regarding COVID in Turkey please check your emails frequently as new precautions can be announced at unexpected times.

We hope you will enjoy the 12th edition of whats been happening at BISI.

Wellness Day 2020

Cara Frigeri: Key Stage 1 & 2 Coordinator

Last year, we had our first Wellness Day and because both the students and teachers loved it so much, we were determined this year to find a way to come together and treat ourselves to a day of shared Wellness. On Friday the 27th of November, all the Primary students came together online in their houses, in their families, or even in a group of friends, to try out a variety of wellness activities that were planned and led by different students.

We started the day with all kinds of dance which was a terrific way to wake us all up. Afterwards, we got a taste of yoga, skipping, origami and even singing. The afternoon was filled with creativity, from painting our feelings to building outside the box, the students loved that it was all about the joy of doing instead of worrying about what it was going to look like in the end. We ended our day with laughter yoga - and I bet the students were able to get a few extra laughs at Miss Guzel and myself doubled over in laughter trying to follow along - it really is contagious! Every one of the wonderful wellness ideas we tried came from the students. So, I know our school can be very proud of all the work they put into making our online Wellness Day. As you can see, they even inspired students to share their work from Friday!

I would like to say a big thank you to all the students who contributed ideas, art, or videos. Finally, I would like to say thank you for all those students who joined the online day. You made my Wellness Day just by getting to see you - including those who just popped in to say hello.  I hope everyone had a fabulous day and can take away a few ways to practise wellness at home.

Year 3 French Class

Our Year 3 students in both City and Zek have been working on writing paragraphs in French using the topic of seasonal clothes and impressive illustrative skills!
Year 9 French Class

Katya Skoudy: KS4 Coordinator

This term Ms Skoudy's year 9 French class have carried out two projects. The first one was about French speaking countries around the world. Students were encouraged to find out different aspects about the Pays francophones of their choice and include information regarding cultural aspects such as events, celebrations, gastronomy, music, geography, climate, the economy and the history.   The countries chosen were Canada, France, Vietnam, Monaco, Belgium and Switzerland.

The second project was a virtual guided tour of a city of their choice, showing information such as the location, geographical statistics, history , climate and places of interest and activities for visitors. The most popular city was London, but we also had virtual tours for Nice, Teheran and Istanbul.

I was impressed with the quality of the projects, the amount of work that went in  and the confidence in which they presented their work to the rest of their class.
Year 11- Additional Maths Trigonmetric Spaghetti Graph

Duygu Gumus: Mathematics Teacher

This term, Year 11 Additional Mathematics students have been studying the unit circle and the trigonometric graphs. Using only resources found at home, they each created spaghetti graphs for the sine and cosine functions. Students used raw spaghetti strands to measure and mark on the lengths of the opposite and adjacent sides of the right-angled triangles from their unit circles. These lengths then formed their trigonometric graph.
