The following newsletter highlights the activities and events that took place during last month at BISI. We hope you enjoy the selection of our students' work on the 39th edition of what's been happening.

A very warm welcome to the
2021-22 academic year!
For those in the community that do not know me; this is my 17th year at BISI and my 2nd year as Director, I am originally from the UK. A teacher of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, I now enjoy creating the school timetable, cooking (at home, not in the school canteen), taking photographs and overseeing the operations of the secondary school and Zekeriyakoy campus. Our school is a unique and special place, the diversity of our community and curriculum is reflected in our school motto – education transcends boundaries. We are rightly proud of the amazing achievements of our students and of the truly international nature of our school. We have families from over 40 different countries and experienced staff from 6 continents. Whilst education is always our main focus, safety during this period of a global pandemic has been, and continues to be, an important aspect of our operational practices, BISI will continue to meet and exceed the requirements of the Turkish government and puts the education and safety of students first and foremost.
Year 3

 

In Year 3 we started our unit on Place Value.

 

We used Base 10 to create creatures and we asked our partner to work out the value of the creature.

 

we had a lot of fun and made some imaginative creatures.
Year 4
In 4S we have been discussing the learning objective I respect the different cultures that make up our community. We have been looking at maps where we come from, what schools we attended previously. We realized that 4S is made up of very different people but we are the class.

 

We looked at how it feels to be coming back to school and coming to a new school, discussing what we were excited about and what we were worried about.

 

 

Eventually we moved on to learning about how I can care about other people in the school, the same way I care about myself.
We realized that for a good learning environment we need to work together, follow the same rules and respect each other. We have golden rules and special words that help us. Sometimes we have to change our behaviors in order to make everyone feel comfortable and enjoy the security of being in a class.
