Welcome back for Term 3! We hope you all had a wonderful break and enjoyed time with your family and friends over the holidays. Are you ready for the final term of the academic year?

At the start of term 3 we welcomed back our Year 11 & 13 students for the start of examinations in IGCSE & IB. All that hard work and effort over the past 2 years is finally paying off and we hope you're off to a great start.

I'm sure there are some who are still recovering after an extremely busy and exhausting term 2, but term 3 is likely to be just as busy with Graduation Day just around the corner and all the end of term activities planned before the school closes at the end of June. The year has flown by in a flash and looking back over our previous newsletters we really have packed a lot in to a short space of time.

Last week our students showed lots of potential and talent in several sporting matches of Volleyball & mixed-team Football, which you can read about in this week's letter. Also in this week's edition is an update from Ms Elemara on the fundraising efforts for the animal charity, following the bake sale and mufti held in term 2.

We hope you enjoy the read...
Friday Afternoon CAS Activity

'Yes, We Care'

Ms Irina Fieraru: CAS Coordinator

As it was promised, the YES, WE CARE project continues this half term with the ''chapter'' Disabled Sports. Delizia and Aysegul are always full of surprises and this time they prepared extraordinary experiences for our year 7 students. Everybody is getting involved and the students are enthusiastic and enjoying the sessions.

Last Friday afternoon Delizia and Aysegul uncovered one of their secrets - Sicilya Semir Spor - an amateur mixed gender football team they created some good years ago. The students had the pleasure to meet Zeynep Bayar, one of the lady players, who shared her inspiring story on how she changed from not being an active person to playing football weekly for the last 3 years and running 10 km in the last Vodafone semi marathon.

The students were organised in to mixed gender teams and could not hide the excitement to go down on the football pitch and play. The games were not completely uneventful, as the boys could not easily accept the main rule of the game -only girls could score!!! It was so nice to see though that most of the students and also Mrs. Lisa Mayer were keen to try this new experience. Some of the girls were really good and competitive in the field and two goals were scored.

If you want to learn more about Sicilya Demir Spor, you can watch the video below:

Animal Shelter Fundraising

You may have noticed at BISI we have a number of MUFTI days throughout the school year, where our students dress to a theme and have a lot of fun; but at the heart of the MUFTI days is usually a charity we are trying to raise awareness of and funds to donate to. In February we held a bake sale in aid of a local animal shelter (Project Paw-print Istanbul ) which some of our staff members have been involved in raising awareness and funds for. Most recently a number of our students visited the shelter during a weekend, which we shared with you a couple of Newsletters ago. Following the bake sale and MUFTI efforts, Ms Elemara has shared below how the money raised has helped the cause.

Ms Elemara: Maths teacher and co-organiser of Project Paw-print Istanbul
With the funds raised during the valentines mufti and bake sale, we managed to buy the following for the shelter animals;

- flea treatment
- internal parasite treatment
- immune boosters
- fungal treatment
- specialist food
- ear mite treatment

All of this has helped approximately 40 sick cats and dogs, so it has had a huge imapact. Thank you to the BISI community for making this possible! We still have a sum of funds remaining, which we hope to use for specialist vet treatment. If you would like to get involved, donate or adopt an animal, please contact Ms. Elemara, Ms. Frigeri or Ms. Newman at BISI.
Year 10 v Middle School Girls Volleyball

During Thursday lunch we witnessed some outstanding volleyball from the girls. Each team winning a set......

So we have a rematch next Thursday to decide the champions.

Well done to all who participated.

Ms. Scotland - PE Teacher
Thank You Şener!

On Friday morning staff gathered in the Theatre to say a sad farewell to Şener, one of our longest standing members of staff. Şener has been a part of the BISI family for many years and has provided endless support to our staff over the years.

Thank you Şener from all of us at BISI for all of your hard work and dedication over the years. You will be greatly missed and we wish you every success for the future in your next venture.

IGCSE & IB Examinations

Examinations will continue over the comings weeks as our year 11 & Year 13 students countdown to their final exams. We hope everyone has got off to a great start so far and we wish you every success in your remaining examinations and for your results at the end of summer.

Good luck to you all...
Unicef Guest Speaker

On Tuesday our year 7, 8 & 9 students will be invited to join Mr Asim Rehman of Unicef, who will be talking to our students about Children's Rights, in our school Theatre.

We'll be sharing highlights with you next week along with some photographs of the event.

This Friday our MUFTI is in aid of one of the Student Council charities: Tarlibasi Community Centre, supporting disadvantaged young people.

Donations of 10 TL will be collected on Friday for this cause.
And that brings our latest edition of ‘Week in, Week out’ to a close.

We wish you all a wonderful week ahead.
