Week in, Week out
A Secondary School publication

This week at BISI we welcome the visiting CIS Accreditation Team, who will be based at both of our campuses during the week to complete their reports. Our staff and school community have continued working hard in the run-up to the visit and we're excited to finally open the doors to the team to show them our school, students and staff at work. Below you can catch up on the official introductions which took place on Sunday, where all of our staff arrived at Zek Campus to give a warm welcome to the CIS team.

Another important date on the school calendar is 11 November, when our SLT, selected staff members and students attend the Remembrance Day service. Mr Bradley has written a full article this week along with some photographs of our students who represented the school in the laying of the wreath and the recital of a poem earlier today. Thanks go to our PTA for their beautiful wreath donation which our students lay on their behalf.

It's also been a week of football for our secondary girls and boys teams, with both having played matches and more to come on Friday. Keep scrolling for this week's results.

And lastly, for anyone who would like to make food donations for the Harvest Festival, please see out 'Week Out' section for more details.

 Happy reading!
WEEK IN
KS3 Football

Mr Huegel - Head of Physical Education

The boys game was still a draw at 0:0 after 40 min and a small tactical change gave the reining TISSL champions the deciding factor. In the end it was a deserved 4:1 victory and the team is ready for Friday.
CIS Accreditation Team Visit

This week at BISI we welcome our CIS Accreditation visiting team, who will be spending time at both of our campuses, talking with staff and observing our teachers and students in the environment.

Thank you to all of our staff, PTA  and everyone involved for all your hard work and time in preparing for this week. We're sure the visiting team will see what a great school community we have here and enjoy their time with us.

On Sunday 10 November, our staff met with the visiting team at Zek Campus for introductions and refreshments in the school canteen. Many thanks to Alara Çoban for playing several piano recitals during the meet and greet; it definitely added to the lovely atmosphere and the great weather. And also a big thank you to our Catering Team and Auxiliary Staff for providing us with lovely food and refreshments for the day. A big team effort!

Remembrance Day Parade

Mr William Bradley - Director of Secondary

On Monday 11 November BISI students attended the annual Remembrance Day parade where we honour the dead of all sides in wars past.  The ceremony marks the armistice which brought an end to the First World War on 11 November 1918.  It is organised by the British Consulate and, apart from the school, is attended by members of the NATO Rapid Deployment Force and consulates representing many countries.  The ceremony is particularly poignant in Istanbul because of the proximity of the Gallipoli National Park where fierce fighting took place during 1915 - 16, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands of allied and Turkish soldiers. The Gallipoli peninsula is home to many important war cemeteries, including the Lone Pine Cemetery which is the home of the tree which is represented in the school's logo.

Year 6 students read the response to 'In Flanders Field', the poem 'Oh Sleep in Peace Where Poppies Grow' by John Mitchell.

Year 6 students Lucy Gagala and Eun Seong Sim then laid a wreath on behalf of the school.

The parade was also attended by Year 10 History students.  Giovanni Petruccelli and Zeynep Baskaya laid a wreath on behalf of the Parent Teacher Association.

Secondary Girls Football

Earlier today our secondary girls played against MEF International school. Both sides worked hard with an early score from MEF team, but BISI fought back to try to even the score.

The final score was: 4-4

Well done to everyone involved today. Hoping for another great match on Friday at the International Gateway Academy.
Halloween Gallery

Our Halloween Gallery has now been added to the school website, but here's a glimpse at some of our secondary students (including teaching staff) who created some brilliant looks for the mufti day.

WEEK OUT
Football Tournament at International Gateway Academy

Good luck to our girls and boys teams for Friday, who will all be travelling to the Gateway Academy for their matches.

BISI wishes you every success in your games. Hope you all have a great time!

Mufti Day (TIDER)

This Friday we will have a MUFTI in aid of the Harvest Festival and ask for students to bring donations of food items to be distributed by TIDER.

Useful food items for donation include:

Rice, pasta, Turkish tea, sugar & tinned goods.

Thank you in advance for your support with this annual tradition.
