The process for University placement really starts in year 11, when students are encouraged to consider their future paths, we invite them to the fairs and exhibitions that year 12 and 13 attend and they are included in presentations by visiting speakers.
In year 12 the heat is turned up, students research their subject areas and possible universities, with the aim of understanding what they need to do to enter the university of their choice. Towards the end of year 12 teachers submit an idea of potential IB grades to the counselor who uses these to advise students. When these students return in Year 13 the process of application begins. All students must prepare a "personal statement" which can be adapted to suit the format of the chosen universities. The personal statement is the student's "shop window", their chance to show universities their strengths and attributes to make them an attractive candidate for higher education. While this is happening teachers are invited to supply comments and final predicted grades to the counselor, who will use this to compile the students reference. Students complete application forms, the counselor's reference is attached and submitted to the relevant application organisation.
